Over the past two days, youth-led organizations and initiatives from Matobo, Bulawayo, Beitbridge, Binga, and Gwanda participated in an intensive training program through the Green Skills Boot Camp, aimed at nurturing their green innovative ideas.

The modules included essential topics critical for sustainable development, such as an introduction to the green economy, technical green skills labs, green business development and entrepreneurship, financial literacy, access to seed funding, pitching, networking, and investor readiness, as well as legal and digital ethics for green entrepreneurship.

Additionally, participants learned about soft skills for leadership and resilience, sustainability planning and scaling, and transferable life skills for successful youth development. These topics provided a necessary foundation for understanding the realities of green business in Zimbabwe.

Through breakout sessions, debates, and networking opportunities, participants acquired vital skills to enhance their green innovations in preparation for pitching for a seed grant of USD $2,500.

The design of the Green Skills Boot Camp was strategically crafted to prepare youths for engagement with potential funders beyond the Youth Collective Action for Social Transformation Project. Our vision extends beyond this competitive exercise, focusing on the long-term prospects of these young entrepreneurs in green entrepreneurship.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to our facilitator and financial literacy expert, Thubelihle Sibanda Ndlovu, who dedicated her time to develop a comprehensive Green Skills Boot Camp Manual. This invaluable resource will serve as a lasting guide for our green entrepreneurs, bolstering their business strategies. The presentations were delivered with exceptional clarity and depth, encouraging participants to engage in critical reflection on financial decisions, challenges, and opportunities, as well as the ideation to execution process for green projects through the SCAMPER model. A pitching formula was also introduced, emphasizing the importance of storytelling to captivate potential supporters of green initiatives.

We also extend our thanks to Dexter Rising Spirit Technologies and Wezesha Industries for providing hands-on experiences that illustrate the true essence of green practices and their financial implications.

Additionally, we are indebted to Nozipho Matumbu, a legal expert whose presentation enabled participants to navigate local registration requirements, understand the trademarking process for business names and logos, and recognize the importance of ethical sourcing and cybersecurity measures.

Furthermore, we are grateful for the training delivered by Sichelesile Mguni, an expert in leadership training and coaching. She equipped participants with soft skills for leadership and resilience, sustainability planning, and impact tracking for long-term success. This comprehensive training experience has empowered the youth to become effective green entrepreneurs, ready to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
